Coach Emily Moore, who was the Head Coach for our high school girls basketball team earlier this year, is now coaching our middle school girls (which includes 5th graders, who are eligible to play any Prep sports!). Coach Moore has been coaching for 4 years, having originally coached at her University Alma Mater after graduating in 2018 at Benedictine University and later at Hoop Code Basketball Academy.
Coach Moore says her background and upbringing “have always been basketball centered, and with that I have instilled so many fundamental life core values from the game,” such as discipline, which is required to be successful. Coach Moore says the athletes “are learning that to get the result they’re looking for, everything starts with hard work.”
In their practices, they work on fundamental basics “that these girls need to improve in to elevate their games more and more.” She adds that “our practices are tough physically and mentally, [and] I tell the girls all the time [to] get comfortable being uncomfortable” because “being uncomfortable gives you a better idea of what it takes to see growth in your game.” Some basics the Middle School athletes are currently working on are dribbling with their eyes up and finishing a layup with their off hand.
You can catch the girls in action this coming week on Wednesday, April 13th at 4:00pm in the Cicero gym, as they take on Scottdale Prep. Please join in for Spirit Week, as we celebrate with a hot dog dinner from 3:30-4:00 before tip-off at 4 pm!
Did you know? Your 5 th graders are eligible to play sports at Prep! Additionally, your Tax Credit dollars help make sports possible! If you haven’t yet made your donation to our Tax Credit drive, please do so now! 100% of the monies given to this fund stay on campus to support extra-curricular and character-building programs such as athletics, field trips and clubs! Great Hearts’ Athenaeum is hiring for its afterschool program, and it’s very likely that you know someone who would be an excellent after school teacher.
Things to Know
- Athenaeum is a state-licensed program which provides daily homework help and classical lessons for our scholars.
- Positions are Mon – Fri after school until 6 PM.
- This is a great part-time opportunity for someone who is studying to be a teacher, is attending college and needs limited work hours, or someone who is a retired teacher and still wants some time in the classroom.
